The health benefits associated with playing sport are often spoken about. The FA reported in July this year that there are higher levels of general health and happiness with those who play football – and women especially – report the highest levels of self confidence as a result of playing. Joining the Bromley Belles though is not just about playing football. Set up last year the Belles have been keen to organise events off the pitch to encourage team bonding and promote new friendships. Social events have included dinners, watching football and having BBQs.
Many events are already in planning. In September, twenty of the players will attempt to complete the London Classic Tough Mudder event. The course which is 10 miles long with 25 obstacles, including jumping in to an ice bath, will be a first for many of the players but they are determined to complete it…together. To prepare for this challenge the Belles have been attending weekly boot camp sessions to increase their fitness levels.
It’s not all about getting fit though. In November the Belles are looking forward to cheering on the England Lionesses when they play Germany at Wembley…hopefully a slightly less physically demanding social event!
If you would like to play football and make new friends then come along to training on Wednesday nights at Bromley FC. The next session is 4th September from 9-10pm. No previous experience of playing football is needed and it is free.
